The Best of Costa Rica - The 4 in 1 Combo Tour
This is by far one of the most popular tours in Costa Rica. It will take you to see Poás Volcano, the La Paz Waterfalls, a jungle river in the Sarapiquí and the famous Braulio Carrillo National Park.
Poás Volcano had the largest active volcano crater in the world until the Mt. St. Helena eruption. This is still an active volcano, giving out steam and ever once in a while coughing out ash and sulfurous fumes.
After a delicious Costa Rican breakfast you go on up toward the crater of Poás Volcano seeing along the way huge coffee plantings, dairy farms and big cultivations of strawberries, black berries, ferns and ornamental flowers. At an elevation of 2,704 meters (over 8,000 feet) above sea level you’ll stand on the edge of the crater of Poás Volcano. You’ll take a short hike into the strange world of dwarf, twisted trees often called elfin forest, as enchanted as any Walt Disney could think up!.
We’ll then go down the road to the La Paz waterfall, a triple fall on a stream that drains an older crater of Poás. Then it’s down into the Caribbean lowlands watching the interesting changes in the vegetation and the cultivations as we go down.
Then out into the lowlands until we reach Puerto Viejo, where we’ll take a jungle motor boat to continue our tour for two hours seeing the jungle and farms along the Sarapiquí River. Then we’ll pull to the bank to go into the Selva Verde Lodge for lunch. This beautiful jungle hotel is surounded with forest and private trails where we can enjoy a easy stroll.
On the way back to San José, by a different route than the one we came down on, we’ll penetrate the heart of Costa Rica’s famous Braulio Carrillo National Park, an immense tract of mountainous rainforest with breathtaking views. We’ll get back to San José around 5:30 pm.
Includes air conditioned transportation, a boat ride, bilingual guide, breakfast, entrance fee to Poás Volcano National Park and lunch.
